Softening The Wax
It’s important that the wax has been softened to make the procedure as comfortable and effective as possible. We would recommend using olive oil to soften it for 7-10 days prior to your appointment. A spray known as Earol is ideal for this. (Please read the instructions carefully) Your ears may feel blocked after using olive oil, this is because the wax soaks up the oil. Other sprays are not always suitable.
Safety
If you have experienced any of the following please speak our audiologists before your appointment and they can advise you:
- Any pain within the last 90 days
- Any middle ear infections within the last 90 days
- Any current or recurrent ear infection
- Any past operations in or around the ear
- Suspect you have any foreign bodies in the ear canal
- Suspect you have a perforated eardrum
- Any fluid or discharge from inside your ear within the last 90 days.
The Procedure
Microsuction earwax removal uses a vacuum to gently remove any excess wax from your ears. It’s one of the most effective services for cleaning your ears and can be completed by one of our accredited professionals in your home. It is a more recommended procedure than ear syringing which can cause ear infections or impacted ear wax.
